Hawksbill turtle recovery

A hawksbill turtle was brought to the Wild Animal Rescue and Education Centre (WARED) in Ranong on 24th October.  An elderly lady bought it from two young boys from Thayang Village out of concern for the endangered species.  She called our marine project advisor Ajan Somphotch, who arranged for its collection.  Our vet found broken shell on its underside and in the tail region, and is treating it with gential violet.  It refused food for the first three days, but is now feeding normally every second day.  The turtle is in a temporary recovery pond, and will be released once it has made a full recovery.
