Last year, WARF received a donation from the Deloitte Company to fund the building of the Wild Animal and Marine Rescue Clinic, at the Wild Animal Rescue and Education Centre in Ranong. We started to build the clinic in October 2008 and we finished around the end of December.
The new centre was due to officially open on the 18th January by staff from the Deloitte Company, who traveled to Ranong on the 17th January.
They arrived in the afternoon of the 17th to see how the clinic looked and to take a tour around the centre. A WARF representative, Khun Preecha Sonserm gave a warm welcome to the group and spoke a little about the foundation, the project and the importance of the clinic, before the group went to their accommodation in Pra Part Beach.
On the 18th January, they returned back again to hand over the clinic, and on this day we had several witnesses from the district, including the Head of the District, Mr, Somporn Padchimpeth. Then the managing partner of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Chaiyod, Mr. Supasak Kridsanamara, gave a speech about why they chose to support the clinic, and the type of work Deloitte is involved in. Every year they take part activities to give back to communities. They ask many organizations to write proposals about their projects and the staff then votes for their favorite project to support. They were glad to see the clinic and hope we will use this clinic to support the community in Wild Animal Care and Marine Conservation. They will be happy to continue receiving updated news from the project, and hopefully will be able to come and support us further in future projects.
After this, A WARF representative, Mr. Preecha Sonserm spoke about the process of building the clinic and gave thanks to the company for lending their support towards the project. We often have many marine animals that wash up injured and need instant care or a place to recover, but we didn’t have any recovery area for marine life until now, so we were very grateful for this donation.
To close the ceremony, we all went down to the beach to release 45 turtles, including the Hawksbill turtles that we rescued from the fisherman’s village in October 2008.
Many thanks to Deloitte for supporting our project, we hope to continue doing great work within the community, and hope to save many animals with the support of the Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Chaiyod Thailand.
